Is my cd burner duff?

Hi all,

I have noticed over the last few days that i cannot burn cd/dvd discs.  When I use k3b, user is in optical group, I get a message saying 'cannot open device for writing' even though k3b reports the writing device as ok.

K3b shows empty media correctly.

I cannot use k3b even as root, it gives the same error.

Do you think my burner maybe be kaput?
I think a new drive may be in order.

Re: Is my cd burner duff?

Hi All,

I would appreciate any help/pointers to solving my cd/dvd writer issues.

I have tried a replacement drive and still get the same error.

I cannot find any problem in the logs.

I have optical set and k3b shows everything ok.

I am running Arch64 and KDEMod4.1.2.

Thanks in advance,

Diesel1.

I don't think K3b for KDEmod 4 works it did not for me, K3b for KDE3 does but changes some dependencies I did not try in AUR. Just used brasero non Gnome from AUR worked ok. but i've now ditched KDmod 4 as their is 2 much non working applications for my use.
