The newest official nvidia driver has a problem - fonts seem to be like out of focus, a bit blurred so that it will make me want to sratch my eyes after a while. Before the update fonts were crisp and clear. The blurriness effect is especially annoying at console and browser windows.
I haven't touched modeline setting, could something be tweaked there?
EDIT: at least nvidia-169.12-4 - package did not have this problem.

Sounds like the DPI settings changed somehow, do you specify the DPI anywhere in your Xorg setup? I had this issue with an older set of drivers where the Nvidia driver auto detected my DPI as 95x96 I had to force it to 96x96 and all was fine. Pasted the section in xorg.conf I had to change.
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Unknown"
ModelName "Unknown"
HorizSync 30.0 - 110.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 150.0
Option "DPMS" "True"
DisplaySize 338 270
Option "DPI" "96 x 96"
EndSection

Thanks for the tip!
I'll try if it would help.

I've kept current with the nvidia drivers for the past year or so, and I haven't noticed a degradation of fonts. I've kept the same DPI setting throughout, though.
I would be surprised if you'd have to revert to the older drivers for this reason. It's especially a drag if, in reverting to the older nvidia drivers, you have to revert to older versions of all those other packages.
