what happens to packages which are no longer a dependency for an upgraded package but were installed with them when it was a dependency.
I mean i had a full kdemod4 install with 486 packages and i have not installed anything new but after frequent updates that number is 490
so am i right the dependency list for some programs are increasing?
What happens when they decrease? i am curious to know

pacman always tells you what packages are going to be installed when you update your system.
Yes, sometimes dependencies do change.
pacman -Qdt...can be used to search for 'orphaned' dependencies... But be careful.
Remember, pacman doesn't do 'everything'. It's your job to maintain your own system.

I am pretty sure that pacman should be tracking those. To see packages what were installed as dependencies and are no longer required, you can use 'pacman -Qdt'.

The number of dependencies often increases with new functionality being added to programs.
