Hi,
Yesterday i installed Arch64, using the new Beta (may i call it so?) CD from Tpowa. Installation went fine (well, at installing Grub in sdb, the windows vista BOOTMGR on sda was also detroyed.)
I'm using xmonad, and installed KDE4 full for the KDE Programs. But i cannot get any sound of any program, except VLC. VLC plays my mp3s fine, but in KMix the Audio is always muted, and i cannot unmute it. In the mixer itself, there is no checkbox for muting at HDA Intel PCM. When i rightclick on the Trayicon, the checkbox for muting is always checked, and i cannot uncheck it.
My Hardware is a Asus P5Q, with ALC1200. It is recognised by the used Stock-Kernel 2.6.27.1 as ALC888. Modules seem to be loaded correctly.

At first, there were 3 Audio-Cards found by alsa: the pcsp (i removed the module now in the rc.conf for loading, now its gone), the HDA Intel, and HDA ATI HDMI (from my graphicscard, a HD 4850).
I raised the volume using amixer, and alsamixer, but at PCM for HDA Intel, there is always no mute/unmute sign under the volume-bar.
When i try plaing a mp3 with JuK, it doesnt even start, when i click on play, the other controls shortly light up, and then they are greyd out again, und the progress bar is at the beginning again. Same thing when i log in KDE instead of XMonad. As i said, with VLC, i can play MP3s normally.

My user is in the audio group.
Plz help, Linux without audio is not really as fun as it was
BTW is there any possibility to send the computer to sleep? i like to use the function in vista, where the computer is like it is shutdown, but when i click a mousebutton or it an keyboard-key, it wakes up as it were in standby.[

It's probably a problem with Phonon which backend are you using? xine or gstreamer?
if it's xine, can you try to install the gstreamer0.10-bad-plugins.
Is your vlc directly ouputting to alsa?
you can try with application that don't use phonon see if you have sound (mplayer, a game, amarok1.4 etc..)
Ah, good taste! What a dreadful thing! Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

i tried using gstreamer instead of xine, but no difference. installed the bad and ugly plugin (and some more too) for gstreamer.

Mmmm, I don't know then, I don't use alsa with my ALC888, couldn't get it working
Can you try with a non-phonon app ? mpg123 or aplay and having vlc output too? (it shouldn't be a mixer problem but well)
Do you have something special in your /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc ?
If someone know how to fix this I'm at loss

mpg123 works, tried ALSA, OSS, Standard and SimpleDirectMedia Layer - Output with VLC, all are working. Aplay also works.
Seems to be a problem with phonon?
There are no asound.conf neither a .asound.rc, only in /etc/ a file named asound.state, but i didn't touch it. It seems so to save the mixer settings.

Well, now i tried some other KDE programs, like Dragon. And they all play sound normal. Well i hear no KDE system sounds, but i guess that is the same problem juk has gotten. I solved juks problem by deleting its settings in the ~/.kde/share/apps/juk folder. After the next start, it played music normal as expected. I think the problem was, that kde took the pcsp-soundcard as primary card. And by blacklisting the modul, the card wasnt there anymore, and now the HDA_Intel is the primary one.
Ok, nearly everything is fine. Some small issues are that i cant get input from my tv-card, which is internally connected to the CD-Audio-Plug (there is no CD-input in any mixers, only line ins, microphons, and none of them gets a signal), and that there is no switch to enable/disable an external amplifier. I would like to use an external... anyhow, the main problem is solved.
