I have a I686 version of linux and see that it is only using 2.33 of my 4gb of ram

is there a way to optimize this and make most of my ram available?

Re: ram

There is no 32 bit system that can aptly handle 4GB of RAM. If I were you I would install the 64 bit version of Arch. I use it, and it works just fine for me. There is nothing that cannot be attained in Arch64 which can be attained in Arch i686.

Re: ram

You can recompile your kernel with PAE support and see all the ram on a 32bit system.

An example .config with only the PAE/highmem support added is at http://mthode.net/.config

Re: ram

That seems way too low. Are you sure it only sees 2.33 GB ? What kind of devices do you have on your PC dude big_smile

LOL, that'll do it tongue

Note about PAE/highmem, from what I hear, it slows performance. IMO 64-bit is the way to go.
