reloading qtconfig settings

I use qtconfig to configure my qt theme. If I start up vlc, it ignores some of the colors but not all of them. If I then start qtconfig and resave the theme without any changes, vlc suddenly respects it.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this? Is it a vlc bug?

Is there a way to reload the qtconfig theme without starting qtconfig?
