IDE CD/DVD drive error at boot

After upgrading to kernel 27 on my desktop I get this error at boot

ata5: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
ata5: SRST failed (errno=-16)

A few times and then it says timed out or something, then hard reset something. I don't remember exactly and there's no way to copy it, but yeah.
When I switched ports it went from this error being on ata6 to ata 5, and when I unplugged the IDE cable the error went away. Also if i let the error go long enough it just ignores it eventually and continues booting. Any help?

Re: IDE CD/DVD drive error at boot

I had this too, many kernels ago. I remember fixing it with appending irqpoll as boot option.

Perhaps it could work for you too.
