Unable to shutdown / reboot, probably since last kernel upgrade

Recently I've been unable to shutdown or reboot. I'd imagine it's since the last kernel upgrade since I haven't fiddled with anything important for a while, but I'm not sure. If I shutdown through GNOME, everything stays on screen and it all halts. If I shutdown from a TTY I see it does everything, and then hangs on POWER OFF, or REBOOTING. So, I have begun shutting down / rebooting with Alt + SysRq + REISU{O,B}. It's not that much of a problem, I just wondered what I could do to fix it.

I would post some logfiles or something, but I really have no idea where to look.

Re: Unable to shutdown / reboot, probably since last kernel upgrade

Had that problem once, however, that's was due to me removing the ACPI module from the kernel when I was n00bing around in kernel config tongue It does as you say, the system halts, but I had to press the power button myself for it to shut off. If you're using the standard arch kernel, it's strange.

Check if you 've ACPI button driver loaded with you:

lsmod | grep button

OK that means you do have ACPI in your kernel. You need the 'ACPI button driver' when you want to use the front-panel-power-button for shutdown or standby stuff (as you may have noticed it in Window$).

I too experienced the same situation when I didn't have any ACPI in my kernel, as Themaister pointed out. But under your present configuration, it should just work !!

Re: Unable to shutdown / reboot, probably since last kernel upgrade

I've just fixed the problem - I reinstalled kernel26. So, something must have just gone slightly wrong during the upgrade.
