...for conky that works with finch? I would be great to see if you have a new message or your status displayed in conky.

I don't know but I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to write one.

If finch can use one of the various notify daemon plugins for pidgin, then this would be really simple.

Hmmm..

this intrigues me.
You can grab the notification from DBUS but hell if I know how to write a script for Conky that'll do it.
