Awesome doesn't play nice with lxsession-logout

I'm using awesome with lxsession (for the power management), but it isn't working properly... When I invoke lxsession-logout, the screen darkens as it should, but the logout window does not appear. It seems to be hidden, as the computer will shut down if I hit return, etc. I tried to make lxsession-logout always floating in my rc.lua, but that didn't do anything... What gives?

(BTW, if there are saner options for power management using awesome, please let me know... This is kind of a kludge. I would be using the suspend scripts that come with HAL, but those don't work at all, either as user or as root.)
