hi!
openarena 0.8.1 is out!
i have a problem with my fps: its important to keep them at constant 125 in order to move properly, but i have regular fps drops each second or so. my system should be able to run it smooth:
amd athlon 64 5000 BE @ 3 ghz, 9600gt and 4 gig ddr2 800 ram
im on arch 64 and use the stock kernel with 177.80 drivers..
any idea what could cause those fps drops ?

what i tried now:
- recompiled arch's kernel (only changed cpu type to k8)
- recompiled ioquake3 engine with different CFLAGS
- added "nopat" boot option
things are better, but the fps is still not stable, the last digit always changes, even if i set it com_maxfps 76
but the heavy drops each half second are gone since i disabled PAT..
what i want to try now is: running the game only on one core, not on both.. but i have no clue how to do so..
are there any other things i could try to improve things ?

So basically, your FPS is dropping from 125 to below 30, but the low FPS is not registering. I mean that just sounds odd to me, and it sounds very much like the opengl problems I was having. All I can say is you should run some memory testers for a couple hours. overnight is best. I know you want answers quick, but graphically intensive games need perfectly sound hardware to function properly. I never did find my problem. I actually quit the game I was playing. lol. Alot less to worry about. Busy these days.

Hi,
I experience the same in openarena, quake3. I've just unset the openal setting in the sound options, and then fps are now stable
