Thunar doesn't want to automount my drives

I'm using awesome with Thunar for automounting, but the automount doesn't seem to work (and yeah, I've got thunar-volman installed). In my .xinitrc I have this:

wicd-client &
thunar --daemon &
exec awesome

But I have to start another session of Thunar (not using --daemon) for automounting to work. Help?
