Direct Rendering lost on shut-down

Hi everybody, first topic, first problem

Using closed ati drivers (my x1950Pro seems not to be supported by open ones) I noticed that shutting down the system I my direct rendering goes away. The only way I can gat it back is booting first on Windows, then on GNU/Linux.
This obviously means that I have to make a double-boot every time I turn off the machine. Boring...

Anyone knows something?

Nobody really knows anything about this, I'm the one suffering this problem?
