I noticed that mencoder slowed down after last upgrade ([2008-11-05 19:25] upgraded mplayer (1.0rc2-6 -> 1.0rc2-7)). It is around 3 times slower now when I encode to xvid. Has anyone noticed this too? While encoding the CPU is 100%, but the encoding speed in frames is slow. Could this be because of the new kernel?
In the new package only these depends have been added('libungif' 'zlib' 'fribidi'). Could these be the cause?
Any ideas? I will compile mplayer from abs and then with old PKGBUILD file and test those.
Edit: The slowness is not related to mplayer upgrade, I tested it. Kernel then?

I noticed this as well. Mencoder and Avidemux are around four times slower than before when encoding to Xvid. The problem is related to xvidcore. I downgraded to xvidcore 1.1.3-1 and now the speed Is the same as before.

32/64bit?
What CPU are you running?
It was rebuild when nasm 2.03 was out, might need to be rebuild against 2.05

32 bit, AMD Athlon 1GHz
I rebuilt xvidcore 1.1.3 with nasm 2.05.01, but encoding ist still slow.
Edit: I changed makedepends from nasm to yasm, installed yasm 0.7.2, removed nasm and rebuilt xvidcore. That also solved the problem. Encoding speed is as it was with the xvidcore 1.1.3-1 package.
There is a related bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7834
Edit 2: Update to xvidcore 1.2.0 returns normal encoding speed. SOLVED
