Hi all.Arch has been working like a dream since I installed it around 3 months ago.All of a sudden, in dolphin, my shortcuts vanished from the left hand side. When I try to drag folders in again I recieve the error
Unable to save bookmarks in /root/.local/share//user-places.xbel. Reported error was: Insufficient permissions in target directory.. This error message will only be shown once. The cause of the error needs to be fixed as quickly as possible, which is most likely a full hard drive.
Firstly my hard drive is nowhere near full. Also I dont have a folder /root/.local (I know it would be hidden).Everything was fine until today and I'm not aware of anything I could have done to cause this.
Also shaman gives me the error
Your settings file seems unwritable.
Please check permissions on it.
I have a feeling this could be the same problem
any help would be great.Id hate to have to reinstall

Why a program is trying to locate a file under root home directory instead of yours? I hope you're not running your desktop with the user root, every time you launch a graphic session with root user God kills a kitten... How are you launching that application?
In any case, this will be probabily related to permissions on that folders. Check with ls -l, and try to create the /root/.local directory, since the problem could also be that Dolphin implicitly requires that the .local folder is already in place. I don't know Dolphin though, so I cannot advice you better.

I was starting them using my user account.Starting X as root makes baby jesus cry.Everything fell apart after that post and my attempts to fix it were pretty futile.I just gave up and reinstalled arch (I didnt learn anything that way but I wasted way too much time on it already). Thanks anyway
