transparent terminal

I would like to have a fully transparent terminal, more or less where it looks like I am typing directly onto my desktop.  What would be the best terminal to use for this?  Right now im using lx terminal since that is what came with lxde, I also have konsole installed from my kdemod de, though Im usually in lxde.  Should I use another terminal, and if so, how do I make it where it has no window borders, top bar, or anything?

thanks

Re: transparent terminal

You should try tilda. It is drop down terminal, it can be configured to show when you press some keyboard shortcut, but nothing stops you to put it permanently on desktop.

Re: transparent terminal

rxvt is also a choice for you. I just installed rxvt-unicode-256color-fontfix 9.06-1 with libafterimage (add flag myself) from AUR. The feature of it such as afterimage|fading is really helpful while using awesome for you will be more focus on what you are doing.

PS Bordless in rxvt is fairly nice-looking too!

Re: transparent terminal

Devils pie can be used for this. Just google search for a how to for "embedded terminals".

Compiz-fusion can also be used to embed a terminal with gnome terminal and xfce4-terminal using the windows rules and window placement plugins.

I don't know about lx terminal, does it have the option to not use the menubar/scrollbar/toolbar/ and the window frames like xfce4 Terminal and gnome-terminal do?

As for tilda, I never liked it.
