monitor doesn't turn on for a long time...until kdm comes on

So for some reason now my monitors (dual display) do not turn on until the kdm appears...and it's taking longer than normal. I'm trying to boot off a cd...but I don't get any display, the monitors just don't turn on. any ideas? thanks.
