Problem with dual monitors and xrandr

Hi,

I'm trying to set up my dual monitors - a 1440x900 laptop monitor and, to the right of that, a 1280x1024 LCD monitor.

I ran this command:

xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS

And got this error:

xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1024 (desired size 2560x1024)

I did a Google search and tried this: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … ..-595649/

It still doesn't work.   Note that my error message was slightly different before I modifed my xorg.conf (I had to add the 'Virtual' line), showing different resolutions in the error (1440x1440 (desired size <something I can't remember>)).

Here is my xorg.conf: http://pastebin.com/ff386ad2

Any idea what's wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should mention that right now my monitors are cloned, with my laptop monitor blown up huge, so my LCD is the only 'usable' monitor atm.   Trying to change the settings via KDE's control panel doesn't do anything.

*bump*

Edit: I've reinstalled Arch, so my xorg.conf may have changed, here it is: http://pastebin.com/f20bc49d3

Re: Problem with dual monitors and xrandr

Thanks,

But I already set up my xorg.conf for that, and used those commands.   It didn't work.   My xorg.conf right now, though, doesn't have the changes I made because I reinstalled Arch (reinstalled because I started using Kubuntu and decided I preferred Arch).

See my orginal Xorg.conf: http://pastebin.com/ff386ad2
