oops! rm -r /root/

well I made the foolish mistake of deleting my entire /root home dir... the unfortunate side effect of this has been that I can't seem to get X programs to work properly anymore. I basically copied all my configs over from my user homedir since they essentially had the same config for almost everything. But now if I do something like:

su
arson

I get the error:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

arson: cannot connect to X server :0.0

how do I regain the harmony I once enjoyed!? wink I'm a litle shaky as to how to fix the problem, I suspect has something to do with my /root/.Xauthority file and I've played a bit with xauth, like merging in my other user config into the /root/.Xauthority using xauth... this seemed to work for a bit, but later it started to complain again, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong. Anybody offer any insight into this?

thanks!

Hapy.

Re: oops! rm -r /root/

well using xauth to merge my users .Xauthority file into the roots works, but it no longer stays in sync like it originally did. sad So I keep having to re-merge it every once in awhile.

anybody know why?

oh my...

xhost +localhost

fixes it of course. *sigh* I thought it was already there but apparently I lost it somewhere in there. smile
