wicd 1.5.4 upgrade causes PSK problems

Just upgraded to wicd 1.5.4-2; can't get onto my WPA-2 wireless network with the new version.  Judging from wicd.log (pasted below), the problem seems to come at the PSK generation point.  I've tried re-entering the password in wicd-client, to no avail.  I don't really know enough to be able to diagnose the problem; I saw a bug report on wicd's site about PSK generation here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/264447.  In the meantime, downgrading to the old 1.5.3 pkg restores functionality.

Anyone who knows more have any thoughts on what the problem might be?  (Unfortunately I don't have access to any unsecured networks to test whether 1.5.4 works on those.)  I can confirm that creating a symlink at /usr/bin/wpa_passphrase to /usr/sbin/wpa_passphrase doesn't do anything (I tried that based on the thread in the bug report mentioned above).

Many thanks

Re: wicd 1.5.4 upgrade causes PSK problems

I have this problem on 2 systems, I have filed a bug here: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12223

You need to revert to the previous version to fix the problem, for now.

Re: wicd 1.5.4 upgrade causes PSK problems

I just experienced this problem after an upgrade as well. I was able to connect by changing WPA 1/2 (Passphrase) to WPA 1/2 (Preshared Key) under advanced settings. Not sure if this will have any effect for anyone else. Seems too simple.

Re: wicd 1.5.4 upgrade causes PSK problems

I had the very same problem, but the solution is quite stupid. Just recreate /var/lib/wicd/configurations/ (that path, yes). And problem solved.

^_^

p.s. no forums were harmed on the design of this solution. Just an good  n' ol' vacuum-tube-powered brain tongue

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Hot damn!  That works for me, too.  Thanks!

This one didn't work for me.  It seems that wicd 1.5.3 was creating files in this directory whose "psk" value was the hexadecimal output of wpa_passphrase, whereas wicd 1.5.4 is creating files whose "psk" value is just the password you feed to wpa_passphrase to generate that hex output.  I guess that's the difference between "Passphrase" and "Preshared Key"?  In any case, my system is now working with wicd 1.5.4 using the solution outlined above by RiceMonster.

Update: The package has now been upgraded to 1.5.4-3.  The new package seems not to break the "Preshared Key" solution; haven't tried going back to "Passphrase".
