What is your graphics adapter/card?
post you xorg.conf for better troubleshooting...:)
By the way vlc doesn't need codecs to play most video formats...:)

OK so I'll post it later on right now (i'm at work right now) i can tell that may graphics card is GeForce® 8400M GS 128mb (dell m1330 laptop).
And also when pacman asked to use the kernel from 'git' i said yes - don't really know it that was smart.
I know about the no codecs for vlc but wanted to find out if that was a vlc only thing but in kaffeine was the same ;/

Sorry about that...You can do
nvidia-xconfigon the terminal to generate a xorg.conf. I'm not sure if this is the right command just check it on the beginners guide if so...
You might as well check this http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA
Hope that helps
Peace

If you run VLC from a terminal, and try to play a video, does any errors appear?
Perhaps post output here.

I get an error:
main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `XVID'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

OK i solved it, afer instaling mplayer it showed an missing library /usr/lib/libx264.so.60
So the solutions was to make a simlink sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libx264.so.65 /usr/lib/libx264.so.60
Thanks for all the imput.

Symlinking libraries is a bad idea. If mplayer hasn't been updated yet in the repos or this problem persists, your best bet is probably to build it yourself. (If you use yaourt, use:
yaourt -Sb mplayerinstead of
yaourt -S mplayerThat should fix the problem of mplayer using an older library.
