so i reloaded my laptop last night after having issues with xorg, or something after an update, couldn't find any other resolution
now flash doesnt work, or i think its flash. i usually use youtube to test flash, and it tells me that either flash or java arent working. i have jre and the flashplugin installed, and they do appear when i go to about:plugins
any advice?

Have you changed the default shell from bash to anything else? Once I did that and I had a similar problem, flash was there but not working. If not that no idea, maybe try to delete ~/.adobe and ~/.macromedia and ~/.mozilla then run firefox again (make sure that your default shell is bash, you have to logout and login if you have changed it before it comes into effect).

Well, first it would be wise to narrow it down to whether the issue is with flash or java.

how can i figure that out? both show up in about:plugins, its a fresh install so it should be up to date?
as far as java, i have jre installed

Well, if it doesn't work on youtube its a flash problem.
No idea why it doesn't want to work though, for me it worked every time.

check permission /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. needs to be 755.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

does this say anything?
[urmom@urmom-pc mozilla]$ sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/mozilla/extensions
Password:
chmod: cannot access `/usr/lib/mozilla/extensions': No such file or directory

Hi,
had the same problem with flash after a new install of arch
pacman -S flash
installs libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
However, it needs to go into
/usr/lib/mozilla/extensions
So I just created one and copied libflashplayer.so in this directory
cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/extensions/libflashplayer.so
Hope this helps
