Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

Thanks for all the info, guys.  I'm really looking forward to 4.2 but it would be nice if some important apps like Koffice2, K3b, Konversation, and others could move a bit faster and catch up with KDE4.  Otherwise, KDE 4.2 just might be the release that finally brings me back to KDE.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

KDE 4.2 Beta2 is NOT out yet, but there is something called '4.1.82' and it is already in my repo (for both x86_64 and i686).
To use it just add [kde4] reporistory info to pacman.conf ABOVE all other repositories (especially above kde-unstable AND above extra) and run pacman -Syu.

KDE 4.2 was tagged today, so i guess that is it? Thanks. Gonna try it out now smile

December 9th, 2008: Tag KDE 4.2 Beta 2
Trunk is frozen for Beta 2 release tagging. Only urgent fixes, such as those fixing compilation errors, should be committed.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

Tanis, first of all thank you for the kde 4.2 packages you provide. I replaced my svn packages with them... they work like a charm.

You may be aware of this: the kde kio stuff needs to be built against heimdal. There was an update ca. two days ago and I downgraded again not to lose http functionality with your 4.2 packages. However, this brings up the question of whether or when you will update your repo. The beta 2 sources seem to work well, so far noone complained. the announcement is due on tuesday.

If you do not plan to update, could you provide your pkgbuilds? I am sure they would be useful to some. If only for rebuilding kdebase-runtime.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

I didn't know new Heimdal was moved to [core]. I had a problem before, when it was in [testing].
But I didn't want to switch my KDE packages to require [testing] repo, so I thought it would be best to wait for new Heimdal in [core].
But since then I discovered that [kde-unstable] contains even newer packages, 4.1.85 and built agains [testing], so I just switched to [kde-unstable].
Now I use only amarok 2.0 from my repo. So I'm wondering if there is a point in maintaining this repo longer, since kde-unstable is kept up-to-date...
Maybe just for Amarok, but I think it should be added to official Arch's repos since it is 2.0 final already (or, at least, kde-unstable).
Oh, and there are kdevplatform and kdevelop packages, but new kdevelop is unusable at this point, so I am still using the old one.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

Yeah, if kde-unstable will be up-to-date, don't worry. Thanks for your efforts!

Hmm... i686 is not really up-to-date, though. But well, we can wait. smile

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

The unstable repo only for kdemod-unstable gave me 4.1.85, if I want to install that, do I have to remove my current kdemod4.1.x? And when kdemod4.2 does come out, can I just do a pacman -Syu?

pacman -Syu doesn't allow me to install 4.1.85, do I have to move unstable above core in pacman.conf to do it? Or do I just comment out core altogether?

Yes and yes.

The former.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

I've already tried it. the beta really hates 64bit.. sad

Looks like I'm back at 4.1 for the time being.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

Hmm.. That's odd. Maybe I didn't remove kdemod 4.1 completely.

What's the best way to remove the current kdemod? pacman -Rd kdemod qt? But sometimes I get a bunch of leftover files like kdemod-kdegames-*. How do you remove the whole group under, say, kdemod-kdegames?

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

You should ask over @ the kdemod site. But IIRC it was something like "pacman -Rd kdemod-uninstall"

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

There is something called 4.1.87 is available.
By the way, Pierre, do you know if there are any plans to have printing support in Arch's KDE 4.2 packages without
having to install any Gnome dependencies?

Awesome. 4.1.96 is running very beautifully. The only problem i got is not having split packages, which Pierre said he might do.

Re: kde 4.2 BETA released!!

The update to 4.1.96 definitely broke khotkeys for me... now I don't have ANY shortcut (neither alt+f2 for krunner) and /usr/bin/khotkeys is missing. Can someone confirm this?

EDIT: this is true even deleting .kde4 folder and logging into a fresh kde4

EDIT2: after re-installing kde (pacman -S kde) and re-deleting .kde4 the situation seems normal and I have my shortcuts back...

"An error" is not very helpful.

I have a suspicion, though: soprano probably did not find a backend. Could you paste the PluginManager part of the output of the command sopranocmd ?
