kde 4.2 BETA released!!

is there a repository to install the kde version 4.1.80?  i tried to build it myself, but it's so complex

Sure, here (daily builds = probably newer than 4.1.80) and here (currently 4.1.80 + some svn revisions)

I had to leave kdemod because the support for x86_64 is bad...

would love to test the beta. im on 64bit too and so kdemod is also no option here. would it be possible so change the pkgbuilds from the current kde 4.1.3 so that we could build it that way? would there be any qt problems or something else?

ok it looks like it's only partially populated.  it's much smaller than the i686 repo and there's no kdemod-unstable.db.tar.gz  :-(

Sure, it is possible if you know how to. You could have a look at the SVN PKGBUILDs available in the AUR for guidance, but beware, they don't work without fixing.

Even if you succeed, you will run into many issues if you expect to be able to run 4.1 and 4.2 in parallel. Following markc's advise and installing his daily snapshots (see first link given by funkyou) in a separate partition might be a good idea. If you aren't afraid of a possibly broken system, you could uninstall your 4.1 packages and install the markc's svn version instead. Make sure to use a different user, though, as beta programs may eat your data.

so then im just waiting for the official releases. i switched back from kdemod to archs kde because of the 'not so good' 64bit support some time ago. today i tried to install their 4.2 beta 1 but there were several issues with the repo and missing packages that scared me off.

I don't plan for this repo to be something large, but since I was building those packages anyway, I thought I could share

Just add following to your pacman.conf:

[kde-unstable]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

I haven't seen "official" announcement, but it works and at the moment it contains KDE 4.1.81
And this release made me finally switch from 3.5.10 (I hope for good this time). It's sweet

@tanis: It will be announced when I think its ready to use. (it's not really complete now; but perfectly usable) Afaik Beta 2 will be released next week (November 11th)

@Rokixz: It's only available for x86_64.

@superrad - You can just install 4.1.80 from my repo. When this one is ready and released for i686 as well just remove my repo and pacman will update to the version available in [kde-unstable].
All the names are the same, just slightly different versions.

If there are no packages for beta2 in kde-unstable available - yes.

Btw, Pierre, would it be possible to add Amarok2 RC1 to kde-unstable repository as well?

I used this package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19633.
There are two compilation issues:
- libmtp needs to be in >= 0.3 version (current is 0.3.3)
- mysql package has to be compiled with "-fPIC -DPIC" in CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS, and with "--enable-shared --enable-static" configuration options

But once compiled, Amarok2 rc1 works fine (though it looks kind of... rough... )

Am I missing something? I have kde installed from extra. Now tried to add

[kde4]

pacman -Syu and no update.  Do I neen to remove current install.

For example I have kdebase-workspace 4.1.3-1 from extra, but pacman -Syu says kde4 up to date, but doesn't update 4.1.80-1.

@tesjo: You probably have [kde4] below [extra] in your pacman.conf. To use packages from [kde4] instead of those from [extra] you need to have [kde4] entry above [extra] entry.
This will also be true for [kde-unstable] repository once it's ready - you will have to add it above [extra] (and possibly [testing]) to use KDE from it.
