I'm a neowin user and am glad to see this move. I think that it will benefit our distribution because there will be more people writing pkgbuilds which will be available to everyone. Good move shift.
archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

if we wanted to remove Evolution, which is a mail and calendar application, we would not only end up removing half of Gnome, but many other applications would no longer be willing to install.
Yeah, and if you don't bother to have a real look at the package manager you are using things will probably not work out very well.

What's Neowin? Even on their own website I just can't find an explanation of what it is ![]()

If they only changed to Enlightenment too, it would be a really awesome distro.

Well you can always pacman -R gnome && pacman -S enlightenment
(I really don't see the advantage of this distrubution btw, it would be better if they would just contribute to Arch imo)

I think the main advantage for them is having a distribution tailored for their specific needs (whatever they may be). On the other hand, if Arch is used as a base, it means that their contributions will get back to us ![]()

I was reading the About page and it says they are doing it more as a learning experience of how to build a distro and get their community involved.

I can agree on that. This will only help Arch. If the Shift team do some really nice, I can't see any reason to why they can't share it with us.

I believe the same. Perhaps both proyects should try to work toghether. For example, by trying to use the same documentation (wiki), and giving them access to the AUR API, they could show the same contects but on their web and keeping in sync, thus benefiting both proyects.
