Inspiron 5150

A horrible laptop, truly.
But, that is not the point of this thread.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is using Arch Linux on a Dell Inspiron 5150, and how they optimized their system for it. I can't seem to get i8k to work, and my laptop is constantly overheating. (I have cleaned it, and there is no difference.). I mean, it runs fine in Fluxbox, but any other DE and the fan kicks in, and a few minutes later, even the keyboard is unbearably hot. (Is unbearably a word?)

Anyways, if there is anyone else out there, I hope you might be able to help.

Re: Inspiron 5150

That I did.

Wasn't sure what to turn it down to, though. My CPU is capable of reaching 3.33GHz, so I set it to something with a maximum of 2.5. Not sure if that would help me at all. I know that the laptop has horrible overheating problems, but, would turning down the CPU even more so be beneficial whatsoever? Other than some games, what use is there for anything over 1.5GHz?

Re: Inspiron 5150

I have dell inspiron 1525n and it's using the ondemand governor and during normal use (Text processing/Coding/Music listening/Mplayer/Flash...) it never uses more than 800 Mhz (that's the lowest value of CPU frequency I can reach).
Set the governor to "powersave" or "ondemand" to use the lowest avaliable frequencies.
