Arch on EEE

I am completely new to Arch and I have only little experience with linux through ubuntu.

I am trying to install Arch on an EEE 1000H.

I have followed these guides:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ins … sus_EEE_PC
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Eee_PC_901
and browsed for hours searching for answers.

I get to a point where I am supposed to run a custom kernel called zeneee

I downloaded this precompiled kernel: http://robertek.brevnov.net/files/linux … pkg.tar.gz, which should be appropriate since it is the newest 1G version and i have 1GB RAM.

Then transfered the file ( and the wireless dependency that it needs ) to my eee on a usb pen and installed them: pacman -U zen-eee901-1G-2.6.27.zen3-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz ( same with the wireless package )

I then proceed to edit menu.lst as described in the guide:

 title Arch Linux zen-eee901
 root (hd0,0)
 kernel /zeneee root=/dev/sda3 ro
 initrd /zeneee.img

and reboot.

If i select the zeneee option in Grub I get the message that zeneee.img does not exist. I checked /boot and it does not exist. I checked zen-eee901-1G-2.6.27.zen3-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz and there is no zeneee.img file in there.

What is wrong?

Also, will my network connection work if i get this kernel running? At the moment i have no network at all.

ifconfig gives me only one if : lo, local loopback

hwdetect --show-net gives me only bluetooth (?)

Re: Arch on EEE

Obviously I got the kernel working right after writing this.

I found this on this forum:    mkinitcpio -c /etc/mkinitcpio-zeneee.conf -k 2.6.27-zen3eee -g /boot/zeneee.img

That let me run the zen kernel.

I still have no ethernet or wifi though. Any suggestions on that ? The guides just state that it should all work now. It does not.

ifconfig still shows only lo, local loopback, but hwdetect --show-net now shows atl1e bluetooth rt2860sta. That does not mean much to me.

Re: Arch on EEE

Tobi, you might be better off posting your question in the large thread for the Asus 901- http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53464 after spending some time reading to see if your problem is solved in that thread.
