mounting USB harddisk at startup

Hi, I want to mount my external USB hdd at startup, however, there is an error during the boot process: "mount: special device /dev/sdb1 does not exist"
Here is the relevant fstab-line:

/dev/sdb1 /mnt/extern ext2 defaults,users 0 0

If I mount sdb1 manually everything works. Thank you for your help!
greetings, Tom

Re: mounting USB harddisk at startup

Same here. It used to work before, but it seems that with the newer kernels these devices need more time to settle (or whatever the reason might be). I then put "mount -a" in /etc/rc.local, but even that stopped working. When I need the external USB-HD (mainly for backups) I do a quick "mount -a".

Don't panic!

Re: mounting USB harddisk at startup

I have a .config/openbox/autostart.sh containing the magic line:

mount /mnt/usb

You may consider it.

Re: mounting USB harddisk at startup

That's what I did too, but then I have to start mpd the same way because my music is on the disk. mpd can't start without a mounted music library partition.
