Hi,
I recently installed a Windows XP Guest in VirtualBox, however, I can't get the screen resolution over 800x600 (my host has 1024x760). I have installed the guest addons, and there's no way. Any idea?
Thanks.

For a larger resolution, don't you have to be in full screen (HOST [right-control] f) ? (Nothing really between 800x600 and 1024x768)

I suppose so, but even in full screen mode I can't get it over 800x600. It just seems to stay inside a 800x600 box with a black frame.

Have you actually run the guest addons (after installing from virtual box or pacman) in the windows client?

I have installed them, including the graphics driver.

Sorry for the dumb basic questions, but then you have the guest additions icon showing in the guests xp system tray, correct?
And if so, have you gone back and forth a few times from full screen, to windowed, to seamless?

How big is your host display? Mine is 1600 * 1200 and the highest I can get the guest display is about 1400 * 1050.

Try to press right CTRL + G few times -- this should force client to adjust to window or full screen resolutions.
Gnome -> Openbox -> Awesome -> XMonad -> dwm .

Pressing Ctrl+G did the trick for me. Now I can achieve 1024x760 in full screen. Many thanks!

Hey this does not work for me. I still get 800x600 on going FS. I installed guest additions and are loaded fine. Anything else to do? I am running Archbang(Arch Linux+Openbox) as guest on Chakra Arch Host. My host resolution is 1360x768 but guest has 800x600

In my case I had to mess around with the "Enable seamless mode (Host + L)" a few times, together with the "Enable Guest display Auto-resize (Host + G)" and enter/exist fullscreen (Host + F) before I was able to get the guest to use the full screen (1920x1080) in the fullscreen mode.
