Re-installing windows, how to restore my GRUB

Hi All,

I'v been running arch for nearly a year and I can say it was some of the best time iv had with linux so far. Unfortunately I am also an avid gamer and have to keep a windows installation to play games on. Up till now this has been xp but problems with xp are forcing me to reinstall it.. Wanting to make full use of my 4gb of ram..iv conceded to running vista 64bit for my gaming rig. My problem lies here..Installing vista will wipe my grub..How can I restore this once the install is complete ? I know I can do this with an ubuntu livecd and running grub-install from it on my disk, however I'd like to know how to do it the arch way.

As a second question, my current arch install is 32-bit (I'm really, really, REALLY fond of my setup) however id' like to make full use of my 4gb ram yet again. Is there a way I could get a kernel with PAE support or do I have to re-install with 64-bit arch ?(I'd rather not format it if possible tongue )

Thanks,

Mewt

Use an arch install disc instead of an ubuntu one?

Re: Re-installing windows, how to restore my GRUB

As far as I know an arch 32 bit uses 32 bit packages and Arch 64 bit uses 64 bit packages...It is also possible to recompile the package to have 64bit support. ^^

Here's a guide to emulate 32bit apps on Arch64:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arc … bit_system

Also, about your grub reinstallation you might check this out
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Grub

An info for arch64

Hope this helps :D
