No mouse after install

Hello:

First of all, excuse me for my poor english.

I installed Archlinux in a old Pentium II machine. I upgraded the system, and the system has a error at boot, so I downgraded the kernel package, and the system works.

I installed xorg and lxde, but the mouse doesn't work. I tried to use the xorg.conf I get with xubuntu and with tynime liveCDs (where i can use the mouse), but no luck. What can I do???

Thanks in advance,

Xerraxete

Re: No mouse after install

This seems to be because of new Xorg, I have an similar isue with my old laptop, where touchpad doesn't work now. I will downgrade it probably, for I don't  have time to look for a solution now :-( Too busy cause of school.

EDIT: I forgot, ATI 7500 with OSS driver

Re: No mouse after install

Have you checked http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging?

This quote:

I don't want this crap, how do I turn it off?

To disable input hotplugging, add Option "AutoAddDevices" "False" to ServerFlags in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section "ServerFlags"
     Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
   EndSection

This will skip devices detected by hal and will use your keyboard/mouse configuration from xorg.conf

will probably help you.

Gnome -> Openbox -> Awesome -> XMonad -> dwm .

Re: No mouse after install

Hm... xf86-input-synaptics makes my touchpad work again except for clicking by just touching the pad and scrolling by moving my finger on the right side of touchpad. Theese are not necesities for now.

Keyboard layout is english though, but i gues that setting that in rc.conf my solve it, as i don't encounter that on the other machine, which is set so. Is there a way of configuring it for xorg only? As it seems now, that new xorg just forget all about xorg.conf... And I probably missed something :-(

1. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Syn … g_function

2. If you are running a DE, then use it's settings dialog to set the keyboard map to whatever you want. If you ain't running a DE, one option is to edit /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi

Re: No mouse after install

I have xf86-input-mouse installed already.

Putting
--------------------------------------------
Section "ServerFlags"
     Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection
--------------------------------------------
in xorg.conf doesn't work for me.

Any other idea of what to do???

Is there anyone with the same problem???

Re: No mouse after install

This worked for me,  It kind of assumes you're making a stupid mistake, which you might not be making.

Try taking out the

"Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"

and in the "Server" section of your Xorg put in:

Option "AllowEmptyInput" "False"

Also, if you're using hotplugging, you have to have hal running: (this is the stupid mistake part, I did it myself)

/etc/rc.d/hal start

if that works, then make sure hal is in the deamons line of your /etc/rc.conf file and make sure it gets started before gdm, kdm, slim, xdm get started, if you are
using a display manager.
