Hi!
After installing splashy my pc didn't boot... I got a kernel panic. then I uninstalled splashy and overwrited splashy's initab and rc.conf with my previous ones. but I'm still getting kernel panic...
the message is something like:
/dev/mknod "/dev/root"
/init
Kenel Panic - not syncing : no such file our directory

I remember this happening to me, but i'm not sure if i figured out how to fix it.
when you say you overwrote the rc.conf and inittab, where exactly did you overwrite from?

Check out your /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
You'll want to make sure the root= section of your kernel line is correct. It should be /dev/sda1 or whatever your root device is.
Also make sure to run:
mkinitcpio -g kernel26
As you should have done when you installed splashy. I don't think not running it would cause this problem, but it's worth a try if you haven't done it in case your image was removed for some reason.
@speed145a
I'd assume he overwrote them from backup.

I installed splashy, but I didn't do it after uninstalling it... I'll try it later and give somee feedback!

sorry about the delayed response but it's been some troubled times with a lot of exams...
@Statix
just now realised what you told me to do, and I actually did it when I installed splashy, and I can't do it again because as I explained I cannot boot...
also tried reinstalling the kernel via chroot (package was in /var/cache..) but same error...
any ideas?
