Hi.
Yesterday I updated to catalyst 8.11 but now the kernel module is'nt working anymore.
# modprobe fglrx
FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/video/fglrx.ko): Cannot allocate memory
# dmesg
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 927 MBytes.
[fglrx:drm_alloc] *ERROR* [driver] Allocating 0 bytes
[fglrx:firegl_init_device_list] *ERROR* Out of memory when allocating device heads
[fglrx:firegl_init_module] *ERROR* firegl_init_devices failed
Is there any solution? I found nothing...
Thanks, Andreas

Same problem here on a Mobility Radeon 9700

I have also the Mobility Radeon 9700. Perhaps it's only a problem with this card...

Tried catalyst 8.12 now and got the same error.

Same problem with 8.12 and Mobility Radeon 9600. Anyone have any tips?

Try removing catalyst and catalyst-utils and reinstall, also try to create a new xorg.conf. Something similar happened to me a while back and a reinstall of the driver and a new xorg.conf solved the problem.

Sorry dude, but the xorg-server (and the xorg.conf) has nothing to do with the modprobe failure!

Errm yeah my bad ^^;;
The part about xorg.conf may (or may not) bug you later when you sort out the module problem.
Wild guess: fglrx depends on agpgart (or so the module says when using modinfo fglrx), try to do modprobe agpgart and check for any errors, if it loads then try to load fglrx.
I guess you have tried removing and installing catalyst and catalyst-utils again, if that doesn't work no more guesses here.

This bug is still up to date. The catalyst version 9.1 doesn't fix that.
I found news that the new 9.2 version will fix that issue:
* http://www.linux-community.de/Internal/ … 27-beheben (sorry it is in German language, anyone an English link?)
There is also an 9.2beta, but I have not tried it yet.

Try installing Catalyst via makepkg.
