xdvi, texlive,xaw xdvi-xaw: error libXp.so.6 [Solved]

Hello Everybody,

On the off chance that this is helpful for anybody, I would like to point out that libxp is currently not a dependancy for texlive-bin, which provides the xdvi viewer, although libxp is actually neccessary to run xdvi.  If you get an error:

xdvi-xaw: error while loading shared libraries: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

installing libxp should clear this up.

I will file a bug report

64 bit here:

pacman -Ql libxp | grep libXp.so
libxp /usr/lib/libXp.so
libxp /usr/lib/libXp.so.6
libxp /usr/lib/libXp.so.6.2.0

Did you install libxp?

It works, but the dependency for the packages is still missing, or is it an optional dependency? But if so, why could xdvi be installed and does not start because of a missing library?

That's an excellent question. xdvi is owned by texlive-bin, but from what I can tell, none of texlive has libxp or anything that it depends on as a dependency. I'll file a bug report.

By the way, welcome to the forums.

It's already done:
