This is actually not a topic to brag about being the user with the most conky instances, it is simply me wondering why I have so many conky processes when I check whats going on with top and ps aux. I only have a small conky bar right over my task bar, and so I thought that there should be only one process for it.
But here is what ps aux shows me:

I just followed the wiki entry about conky, so I'm also wondering why the conkylink shows up three times. Is all of that really normal? I mean, I don't have any performance issues with my computer, but it seems a bit unnecessary too me to have that many conky instances for just one little conky display.
I hope there is no other topic about it, because with the search function I could only find topics about how to create multiple instances of conky with different config files.

I need to push this as I can't figure out what could be wrong.

You're using KDE4 and asking what's wrong ?
It could be a billion things, I'm afraid. KDE4 is a shame to what it used to be.
Try removing that conkylink from /home/archer/.kde4/Autostart and start conky from the terminal.
See if it still behaves whacky. I'm using conky with openbox and have no such issues.
What do you have inside that conkylink anyway ?

Well, if I kill all instances and start conky from terminal, there is only one instance showing up, so I guess it has to do with the way it autostarts.
conkylink is simply the link to /usr/bin/conky, as suggested in the wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Conky) with the only difference being, that in the wiki it seems to me that the is for kde3.5 and I simply adapted it to the kde4 autostart.

Ok, so I just went ahead and deleted the conkylink in my autostart directory and now it autostarts in only one instance. I have no idea why it still autostarts, since I followed the instructions in the wiki and having the conkylink in the autostart directory should be the only way to set it up, at least I thought so.

Do you have session saving enabled ?

Actually I am not sure, because I don't use the english KDE4, but I can find an option that seems to be for session saving and it is enabled. That explains why I did have so many instances, it was in autostart and everytime I rebooted it added another instance of conky. Oh man, such a simple explanation and I never thought about that.
Thanks moljac024 for your patience and for pointing that out, I feel so stupid right now
edit: Just tested it out by deactivating that option and conky didn't start, thanks again!
