Unable to hibernate laptop

Hello,

I have a Thinkpad T42. Ever since I first installed Arch I haven't been able to hibernate my laptop. I run pm-hibernate as root and it acts as though it is going to hibernate, then just comes back up. I see the flashing moon and everything.

This is my output from /var/log/kernel.log related to hibernate:

Do you have a swap partition mounted?

cat /proc/swaps

Also see here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils to make sure you have edited your /boot/grub/menu.lst and added the proper options.

That's rather bizarre. I had hibernate working once when I first installed, then never again after that. I checked /proc/swaps and the swap partition wasn't showing. apparently the original entry in /etc/fstab wasn't working anymore for some bizarre reason. deleted the entry and redid it, rebooted and now hibernate works!

Re: Unable to hibernate laptop

I have the same issue with the same error entry in /var/log/pm-suspend.log ("/usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions: line 275: echo: write error: No such device"),
but:

# cat /proc/swaps
Filename Type Size Used Priority
/dev/sda2 partition 1052248 0 -1

What's the problem might be here?

Re: Unable to hibernate laptop

Did you specify a "resume=/dev/sda2" kernel option in your bootloader?

yes.
Alse i have pm-utils package installed and dmesg gives some strange lines after loading Arch:

PM: Starting manual resume from disk
Replacing swsusp.
TuxOnIce core not loaded yet.

Re: Unable to hibernate laptop

Hi, guys, I know this topic is old but now I have same problems. I'm using kernel 2.6.36 + kde 4.5.5 + grub2 on the laptop name "Emachine D725".
Suspend to ram work normal, but suspend to disk not work. At first, it acts as being going to suspend correctly, but instead of resume, computer reboot.
I try to add options: "resume=/dev/sda2 acpi_sleep=nonvs" (/dev/sda2 is my swap partition) on grub.cfg but it not works.
I don't know how to fix it.

@s8dtvt - its good that you searched before posting, but please read the following:- https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … Bumping.27

The kernel version and everything from this thread is 2+ years old, start a new one. Before you do that, search google and read what the wiki has to say about suspend/resume.
