Display doesn't come back after being put asleep

In the 'gnome-power-preferences' dialog I have the option "Put display to sleep when inactive for XXX minutes", but everytime I set this option to something different than "Never", if my laptop is in idle for XXX minutes and its display is put on sleep mode I can't make it work again, it seems like it can't make I wake up!
I'm guessing this a Gnome's problem because it is the only application I'm running who's in charge of power management.

Package versions:
xorg-server 1.5.3-3
hal 0.5.11-7
hal-info 0.20081022-1
dbus 1.2.4-1
dbus-core 1.2.4-1
dbus-glib 0.76-1
dbus-python 0.83.0-2
Gnome 2.24.2 (too many too list =p)

If I can provide any info/log/configuration file, please let me know.
