Awesome Widgets

I'm having trouble getting my battery and wifi widgets working with the latest awesome-git in the AUR. I have looked at the Awesome wiki, and added the snippets of code into my rc.lua. However, I just can't get it to work. I have tried multiple ways, including Gigamo's configuration using Naughty, the one in the wiki using Wicked, and a few others. Any help?
