Dell Vostro SATA problem with 2008.06 Pleeese help!

Hi all,

Apologies if this is answered, but I can't find exactly this issue.

I have archlinux-2008.6-ftp-i686.iso on a cdrom and a Dell Vostro 200 desktop.
Booting from this CD i always get lots of SATA exceptions, soft resetting link then hard resetting link, then it fails with:

Failed to mount /dev/cd*
ERROR: cannot find bootcdrom device, cannot continue...
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

THe 2008.3 boot fine straight into the shell and runs but of course won't install because the package system has changed.
I have tried legacy-ide and irqpoll, but it makes no difference to the errors or the final failure.

Is there a basic, not ArchLive, varsion of the install disk somewhere? Or else, how the hell do I get 2008.06 to behave like the old install disk?

Very frustrated now - please help!

PS I have successful Arch installs on all my other computers: desktop, embedded and laptop smile

[SOLVED]

Excuse my French, but WTF?

Set BIOS to SATA type = RAID
By default, this is set to SATA type = IDE

and it boots up OK
