Questions about KDE and network

Hey guys.  I'm a pretty new Arch user, and pretty new to KDE as well (mostly been a Gnome guy) but most of my problems have been figured out by the Wiki or forums.  I do have a few questions though that I can't get.

I just got Arch installed on my 8GB Sandisk Cruzer Micro, with the intention being a mobile OS.  Everything works great except for the network - eth0 only works on the machine that I originally installed the system on.  If I take the drive to my main computer, eth0 times out.  I tried doing "modprobe sky2" and restarting network in rc.d, but it will still time out.  sky2 (the module for my main comptuer) should also be in my modules array in my rc.conf, so shouldn't it work?  Since I didn't need sky2 during the installation is it even on my system?  Modprobe has never complained but I'm really not sure.

Like I said I also have a question about KDE; since I figured there would be some hardware problems with X on different machines, I installed the Vesa driver, not a computer specific one.  When I normally install an OS I use the specific drivers for that machine, so bear with me, but can vesa display anything about 1024x768?  One the screen resolution changer in KDE I only have 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480.  One of my monitors is 1680x1050 and the monitors at school are 1440x900, so it looks a little strange.

Those are my biggest problems now, Arch has a surprisingly easy and straight forward install and config.  Just a few miscellaneous questions - after installing a package from AUR with ABS, can I delete the .pkg.tar.gz?  I obviously don't want to carry around a 36Mb package on an 8GB flash drive if it isn't necessary (I think I can but I'm not sure about uninstallation).  And last one, Pacman is pretty easy and flexible by itself; is there any reason I would want a frontend like yaourt?  Are there any real advantages/disadvantages?

Thanks a bunch guys.

Re: Questions about KDE and network

You can safely delete those packages, and also you could back them up for future reinstallation.  yaourt is for downloading from the AUR and automates the download of the PKGBUILD.  It's useful if you want automation.  It really depends on you which is better..:)  As for me, I like to manually download them...:D

Hope that helps

Here's an info about yaourt

Re: Questions about KDE and network

Hey, thanks for the information about yaourt!  It seems like it could come in handy at some point, but like you, I don't think I need it right now.

Anyone have any thoughts on the other questions?

Edit:  I just remembered a few more questions I had.  When I try to Shutdown or Restart in KDEmod, it logs me out and sends me to vc/1, where I need to log back in and run sudo halt or reboot, respectively.  How I can make it just turn off or reboot?  Also, in KDE, how do you unstill default programs?  I mean, this is just a small mobile OS for me, so I don't exactly need Kate, KWrite and Kjots all installed (I don't actually need any of them roll).
