[solved] Intel D945GCLF2 Atom 330 motherboard + Xorg = crash on start

So today I went to the computer store and bought an Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard.  I'm installing Arch on it but I'm stuck on getting Xorg to start.  It uses the 945 series Intel integrated graphics so I installed xf86-video-intel.  However, when I run "startx", it starts and displays twm, but the keyboard and mouse don't respond to input.  But interestingly enough, I can still Alt-F1 (for example) out of console 7 and ^C to kill Xorg.  So the system doesn't hardware lock, it's something to do with the drivers or Xorg.

I've been Googling this endlessly tonight and haven't found a solution yet.  I've messed around with BIOS settings and xorg.conf flags ... nothing.  Is there anything I should try at this point or should I file a bug report?

edit - it hardware locks on occassion too (no numlock light toggle on key press)

I assume you already know about the new xorg hotplugging paradigm...sounds a lot like that kind of issue.

The D945GCLF2 Atom motherboard seems pretty darn interesting.
Since you're installing X, I assume you're making it into a desktop, rather than a server. Is the networking okay without tweaking? Anything else cool you can tell us about it, or is it really just a fairly standard motherboard which Arch installs on easily?

I have one here (from here:http://www.tranquilpc-shop.co.uk/acatal … 30_PC.html) and it's been a lovely thing to use - quiet and significantly cooler than the near-silent P4 it's replaced.  Only downside is now in the winter I have to keep the window closed in my room!

Arch installed no problem - except for cpufreq! I can't find a driver to use, but I haven't looked properly yet.

Synthead - do let me know if you manage to get that going.  Good luck with your project too, it sounds like a lot of fun!  My next project: buy an MX-5 Miata!

I also bought one a week ago (built the entire PC for 230 Euros smile but to be honest I expected it to be ALOT quieter. The cpu cooler is very noise, so much that I can't put the box in the living room next to the TV, which is what I had originally planned.

Otherwise I'm satisfied with it. Small, very inexpensive, and presumably light on power consumption.

The tranquilPC solution is a fanless system, it uses the case as a heatsync - hence mine is silent bar the laptop HDD.

I'd have probably gone for a CF card too, but I'm having troubles getting full UDMA speed on my thinkpad with a CF card.

I'm actually putting the computer in my car smile

But yeah, I got everything working fine on it.  Networking, usb, video, audio, etc. all worked flawlessly without any work.  I mean, it's all Intel-based stuff.  The computer chugs right along too.  Pretty damn powerful for what it is.  I'm seriously considering buying a few more of these for a fileserver, mpd server for the house ... big_smile  They're super cheap!
