X crashes intermittently with KDE [SOLVED]

I just upgraded to the newest Xorg and now X crashes intermittently whenever I use KDE - but not with fluxbox or XFCE4.  I can consistently get it to crash if I start up urxvt before the login sound plays, but if I wait until after that to do anything it happens seemingly randomly, but is usually related to starting or resizing some application, usually a terminal (which uses compositing for transparency).  It also tends to happen when I toggle desktop effects with alt+shift+F12.  Here's a snippet from my kdm log:

X.Org X Server 1.5.3

Re: X crashes intermittently with KDE [SOLVED]

just backup your xorg.conf and create a new one. had the same problem with kde, but this did fix it, i just ran nvidia-xconfig, other configs through hotplugger

Re: X crashes intermittently with KDE [SOLVED]

Remove the BackingStore option or set it to false:

Option "BackingStore" "False"

This is known problem with nVidia drivers.

Re: X crashes intermittently with KDE [SOLVED]

I have the same issue with an Intel card, so I do not think it is Nvidia-only....
I did create an Xorg.conf from scratch after the move to 1.5.

I suspect it has something to do with the state the chip is in after a suspend-resume cycle but I am not sure, since it has only happened 3 or 4 times. Which is 3 or 4 times too many, by the way....
