Laptop fan problem in X11

It seems that whenever I start X, the laptop fan will keep going on and off, which is really annoying. Can someone give me some help? Is it about acpi?

Re: Laptop fan problem in X11

Probably your laptops gets warm while running X and ACPI starts the fan. Or are you talking about hysteresis effects? An easy way to find out is to drop to a terminal whenever the fan starts up and check the temperatures.

acpi -t

Re: Laptop fan problem in X11

acpi says thermal 1 is 40.0 degrees.

Basically the fan will start for about 2 seconds, then stop for another 2 seconds, then start again for about 2 seconds... sad

The laptop-mode-tools offer you a way to deal with hysteresis.

Can you tell me how to do it? I've looked at laptop-mode.conf but do not have a clue which one needs modification. Thanks!
