My first problem is that the amdcccle program does not display any fonts, I'm at a loss as to how to fix this issue. Screenshot: https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/264378/catalystwtf
(I'm not sure if that link will work).
Second, and I think this may be related to my catalyst problem, whenever I try to anti-alias fonts, they end up just disappearing, and all of my fonts look disgusting.
Third, resizing windows makes my frame rate (I'm using desktop effects) drop to less than 10, when I run glxgears I get a framerate of like 8000 when using xterm, 60 with KDEmod and vertical sync.
My computer specs:
core 2 duo, 1.86ghz
2gb ddr800 ram
x1800xt 256mb ram
640gb hard drive
I'm using the latest kdemod, catalyst, and xorg.
These issues also affect gentoo as well, in exactly the same way.
edit: my frame rate in glxgears with vsync off is 6000+ and my frame rate with desktop effects is 60

bump
and I think I figured out the problem, when running glxinfo I get
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
and
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Radeon X1800 Series
OpenGL version string: 2.1.8304 Release
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
So, I am thinking the problem is that my glx vendor string is NOT ATI, and if I can fix that that may solve all of my problems with the ATI drivers. I've googled around on this, and found a few posts about it but a lot of them have no replies or are not the same problem as mine.
