gnome with tint2 panel??

i was trying to figure out how to kill the gnome-panels and replace with tint2 along with trayer for at least one of the panels. i started to incorporate some of openbox into gnome. but any real detail info on how to do

i tried one method thru the gconf but that almost killed my gnome. anyhow ideas would be appreciated.

The gnome DE cannot be run without the gnome panel.  You can shrink it, hide it, take everything off it, make it 100% transparent, etc., but 1 has to be running.

... but, if you want to get rid of the window manager (replacing it with openbox) and of the panel, perhaps you can consider to drop gnome as a DE, continuing to use all the gnome apps you like and need in an openbox environment
