xorg permissions?

I am having trouble with a reinstall, I can only start xorg as root?
As root everything loads fine.
As standard user I get
waiting for X server to shut down error setting MTRR (base = 0xe8000000,  si 0x08000000, type = 1) invalid argument (22)

I didn't have any of these problems the last time I installed arch and x on this computer.
Are there some permissions that need to be set in this new version of x?

AFAIK, mtrr register use is deprecated; the same things are handled by libpciaccess now. So these warnings are probably legacy stuff. In any case, the error is thrown on shutdown of the X server. The reason must be a different one. What does /var/log/Xorg.0.log say?

Edit: I forgot to answer your question: no, there are no permissions you need to set for X specifically. You might have run into some of the common issues since the upgrade to Xorg 1.5. So, again, please have a look at the log file.

Sorry this took so long I had to figgure how to select all and copy in openbox or whatever the default X window manager and links.

The section "screen" in your xorg.conf forces 1024x768 as max. resolution. That might just be your problem right there.

Does the regular user require read access to xorg.conf? You may have to chmod 644 /etc/X11/xorg.conf, just an idea?

I had this same problem and it boiled down to being an issue with the user's default .xinitrc file.  The default .xinitrc doesn't actually start any window manager or programs, so xorg starts and then exits right away.

I solved this by deleting the user's .xinitrc.  At that point it used the system's default xinitrc, and everything worked like a charm from there.

I had another look at the log file. The line

(WW) intel(0): Failed to allocate texture space.

gives the reason for the later failure to load the drm module with its frame buffer. This means that it is trying to allocate more memory than available. You should reduce the video size. Since you are only using 1024x768 as per section "screen," get rid of higher definitions in your monitor section. (Which is barely readable. You could get rid of the invalid font paths and the many lines you commented out.) I am not sure you need these detailed definitions since some of them are plain wrong for your monitor and it supports ddc anyway. (Have a look at the log for this.)
