[SOLVED] Alfa AWUS036H supported? [it is]

hi

First I hope its wel placed in the forum.
Second, I have currently a rtl8187 usb dongle with my asus m2n32 sli wireless edition. But since its always a hassle to get it working not properly, I want to buy me a wireless usb thing that works out of the box. Not because of lazyness or cmdline sickness (love it btw). Just want a stable wireless connection with minimal effort.

Sooooo, I came up with Alfa AWUS036H. Aircrack suggest it so it must work on Archlinux to. Or I just could convert to slackware x64 port. But that's a run scenario which I can't live with. And if you keep in mind that I already conquered to get my crap rtl8187 usb dongle working badly with ubuntu x.xx...

So Is there anyone that uses Archlinux (prefereable x64_x86) with the Alfa AWUS036H and can garantee me that it will work (with assumptions ofcours that everything is working etc.). Or how it would work...

btw does Linksys WMP300N Wireless N PCI Card MIMO works to?

thanks in advance

AWUS036H works out the box with the RTL8187 driver: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rtl8187_wireless

It loads the module automatically when I plug it in, and with the larger antennas I can pick up strong wireless streams where my old laptop with a BCM4318 was not able to.

You have to edit your original post and place a [SOLVED] in the title.

If you buy this card from eBay, you can get the big 8 dBi or 9 dBi antennas that come with the little 2dBi antenna for free.

The one I purchased hasn't a free 8-9dBi antenna . But I am limited to Europe objects, because I don't have credit card thus no paypal. Still haven't received it yet because of the holiday delay, grrrr. So I still can't use archlinux.
Linux cmdline like archlinux is a real pain without internet connection.

They sell those antennas for real cheap if you find a way to use paypal..... but the 2dBi antenna that comes with it is nice and worked slightly better than my last computers integrated BCM 4318 wifi card.

These hi-power dongles are wasted when paired with omni-directional antennas. Use the bundled 2dBi antenna for your home AP and go with a directional one for really long-distance connections {when|wher}ever you feel like or need to. I've been able to make sustained connections in ranges up to 8 Km with my directional piece on remote APs of all kinds, with a clear line of sight ofcourse. Google for "13dBi Panel Outdoor w/ RP-SMA connector" and enjoy!

The place that I ordered my card from included a free 8 dBi and free 9dBi antenna.... they definitely pick up a better range than the 2dBi one, but I was thinking about turning the 9dBi antenna into a dish or something like the can-antenna to make it even better.... That "13dBi Panel Outdoor w/ RP-SMA connector" looks like it would work really good..... but that's another $50 dollars.

I've also built a nice cantenna for the dongle, with virtually the same range as the 13dBi panel. The only drawback is its clumsiness...
