nvidia 8600 GTS issues

Im writing this in lynx because I'm so far unable to get xorg to run on my newest PC. It has an nvidia 8600 GTS gfx card and an old iiyama crt monitor; for the configuration im using nvidia-xconfig as this seems to get the best results. However these results are limited to me being able to see a static image of the twm setup that comes with Xorg and not be able to input anything via keyboad and mouse. I would post my xorg.conf but I can't think of a way to get it on without copy and paste :S. If anyone can help me with this I will be most greatful and I appreciate the many problems associated with using newer hardware on linux.

Re: nvidia 8600 GTS issues

Shot-in-the-dark here, but I usually follow this method:

1> X -configure.

2> mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

3> nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals --composite

4> Edit the xorg.conf file to get rid of any rubbish you don't want: type1 fonts, for instance.

Hope this helps...
