Installing Xorg ver 7.1

Hello, I have this problem with the current versions of xorg, My video card is a Ati Radeon 8500 and the only way I can use the closed ati driver is by switching from Xorg 7.3 to 7.1.  The reason I want the older version of Xorg is, Blender will not work with the open source ati drivers. So I am forced to downgrade Xorg to 7.1 I have searched the net for days, how do I do this? Do I need to build an older xorg is there a way to use pacman to install it. thanks

Re: Installing Xorg ver 7.1

I wonder if you were able to find a solution to this?

I'm working on a Thinkpad A31p (2 Ghz, 2Gb RAM, FireGl 7800 = Radeon 7500 Mobile, 64Mb, 1600x1200) and if there is a possibility to get a more responsive Gnome (slightly slow window dragging, resizing, window switching, still quite usable but could be better) with an old Xorg and proprietary drivers I'd try this, too...

Edit: Sorry, found the other thread...

Re: Installing Xorg ver 7.1

Shaika-Dzari we've meet haven't we lol. It has to do with Blender crashing, my card is to old to work with the current xorg along with ati's closed drivers. I don't know how to get the older xorg, (downgrade it) but I'll check out :tomk's advice. Also I can't install 3d games in wine, kinda annoying, so I just fire up ol' Xp I'll report more later on this.

Re: Installing Xorg ver 7.1

x.org will tell you what the actual version numbers for 7.1 are. You're going back over two and a half years, so I don't expect this is going to be particularly easy for you. Here's a link to get you started: http://xorg.freedesktop.org/releases/X11R7.1/

I 've just look the ATI website and your are right. The package you must search are:
xorg-server / -utils
xorg-font-*
xf86-input-keyboard / mouse

and all its dependencies.

Like Tomk said, it will be hard to downgrade to 7.1. I don't think you will find this old version in standard "downgrade repo". You will probably need to check each
dependencies on X.org website and use ABS to build your own package.
It would be easier to buy a new card or switch distribution. sad

Re: Installing Xorg ver 7.1

Thanks Shaika-Dzari

Indeed it would be easier to buy a new card, and downgrading this would be a real pain, but I'm determined, so I'll leave it at that. Thanks for your advice, I have something to go on now.
