playing music on external hard drives using mpd

Hi,
I have my music on an external hard drive and I mounted it and put it in my .mpdconf file, but mpd does not add the songs in the external drive to it's database. How can I fix this?

Hi, I have a similar installation and solved the problem by changing the rights of the mp3 files so that mpd can read them. Something like "chmod 644 *.mp3 -R" should do it.

Hey,
I changed the file permissions using the command which you gave. Now mpd adds the songs to the database but i can't see them. I know they've been added cause when i do "mpd --create-db", i see the files being added.

just in case: you do know that you need an extra client program to connect to mpd and view/play the files right?
